Guyana is a sovereign state on the northern mainland of South America. An English speaking country, with cricket and calypso music, it is culturally connected to the Carribean region. . Education in Guyana is provided largely by the government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Education and its arms in the ten different regions of the country. The statutory age for beginning compulsory education is five years nine months, and students are required to attend school until age 16. Primary education lasts for 6 years, while secondary education for 5 years. After which, students have the option to go to college and/or post graduate studies. School year starts in September and ends in July.
